Keep Out

I hung a sign on my heart.

It read: Keep Out.

It worked.

Kept you all out.

One full year.

I met you and kept you away.

Oh, you're..

Nice?

That's nice.

Cute?

So what?

Funny?

You can make me laugh. You can't make me fall.

Smart/Cool/Fun/Sweet?

Let's be friends.

If you were "undatable" I tried to date you, until it quickly, inevitably fell through.

If you were "datable" I shoved you in the friends category faster than you even knew.

One full year.

What am I left with?

Knowledge that I am okay alone.

More than okay. I am happy. Alone.

But for how long?

I do long.

Now.

For you.

For that.

I am a whole person.

I do not need another half.

But I do want another whole.

Keep Out.

I thought I had kept you all out.

Then you crept into my dreams.

Haunting me.

Reminding me.

My subconscious telling me:

Keep Out couldn't work forever.

You ignored my sign.

You somehow got in.

And now I will fly halfway around the world.

And pretend that you never did.
